BIRTH OF A CONCEPT.

History

Prior to the birth of HMG, the son observed while the father formed strong bonds in the Richmond psychiatric hospitals and clinics. He had come as an immigrant with his young family and became established as a leading teacher in psychiatric residency programs at the Medical College of Virginia. While he taught and developed his own reputation in the child and adolescent psychiatric field, the son trained in adult and geriatric psychiatry at Vanderbilt Medical Center Hospitals in Nashville, Tennessee. As an emissary to biological psychiatric practice, he returned to join his father. Having developed fledgling concepts and treatments for the chronically mentally ill and those with substance abuse issues, he eventually become certified in both psychiatry and with the American Society of Addiction Medicine, achieving Fellow status.

Now, in this new millennium, psychiatry has evolved from dynamic and nascent biological concepts to a branch of medicine and pharmacology, continually redefining itself and its manuals.  A proud, respected and gratifying field, psychiatry complements the fields of neurology and neurosurgery with its own rehabilitation and recovery models, all borne out of research and time proven methodologies.  It is in this rich field of opportunity that Humberto and Mario Gomez, M.D. evolved, directing local adolescent residential centers and in the local counties’ mental health centers, establishing best practice standards and adherence to standard protocols. The emotionally impaired, but also the intellectually challenged and substance abusing populations have since benefited greatly .  As the father did before him, the son continues to update and redefine the legacy they both created.  New technologies await them, but HMG Psychiatric Associates, P.C. stands ready to meet that challenge, evolving to benefit the many.

Humberto and Mario Gomez, M.D. are bilingual psychiatrists who, along with their associate staff, welcome you to their practice.  Now located in Chesterfield County’s Midlothian area, HMG Psychiatric Associates, P.C. is ready to assist the young to the very old in all aspects of emotional and behavioral challenges now hampering your life.

Associate

Melissa Montalbine,  P.M.H.N.P.-B.C.

I am a Board Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing care across the lifespan.  I am fluent in French and German, and the office staff are fluent in Spanish. Having myself lived overseas for 27 years, I take interest in difficulties facing immigrants adjusting to the USA.

My training allows me to consider the patient’s unique context and circumstances to help people suffering from the effects of trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, relationship problems, and serious mental illness.

My 20 years of experience as an inpatient and outpatient RN in settings such as critical care, public health, and psychiatry, give me a unique understanding of how underlying medical issues may affect one’s mental health.

As a Nurse Practitioner, I take into consideration the mind-body-spirit connection and promote health in these areas.
